Health services

Israel has a world-class, socialized, universal healthcare system.

Israel’s healthcare system is the envy of many countries and was rated 10th in Bloomberg’s Global Health Index in 2020.

There are four healthcare providers (or Kupat Cholim) available. When you make Aliyah, you will be asked which one you would like to join.

The healthcare providers are:

We recommend that you do some research in this area as some of the companies focus more on certain regions of the country, so where you choose to live might affect your decision.

You can find out more about Israel’s healthcare system on Nefesh B’Nefesh’s website and on Wikipedia.

Access to HRT (hormone replacement therapy)

HRT is available through your healthcare provider. For specialized care regarding HRT which might be outside of the scope of your family doctor, once you have your healthcare provider set up, you should get a referral from a local endocrinologist to the Sheba Endocrinological Unit. This department specializes in Transgender Health Care. To make an appointment, you must request a referral letter and send it to mirp.endocrini@sheba.health.gov.il

Living with HIV

If you are planning to move to Israel and you are HIV positive, please remember that your status will not negatively affect your eligibility to make Aliyah.

We recommend that you make contact with the Israeli AIDS Task Force and also that you bring with you at least three months of meds when you move to Israel, as it can take some time to get things set up on arrival.

HIV meds are available as part of healthcare coverage, regardless of which provider you choose.

Need more info?

We are advised by the Israeli AIDS Task Force that the larger providers, such as Clalit or Maccabi, are a better option for people living with HIV as they often have better access to newer medication.
